What to do if your Lego set is missing pieces
Although we're pretty much exclusively a toy review website, I thought this was a topic which would be handy for fellow Lego enthusiasts. I've never toted up how many Lego sets we have but it must be well over a dozen, and until recently we had never had a single missing brick. However, when we got the Lego Hogwarts Castle set there were 2 tiny roof tiles missing. Fortunately, Lego have made it very easy for people to claim for any parts missing so here is my quick guide for dealing with missing Lego bricks.
Where to put in your request for missing Lego bricks
If you click on the link the page you need should open up: Lego website
It's a nice easy form. After asking for your age you will need to tick a box confirming that you are missing a brick from your new Lego set and type in the set number (which will be on the packaging and instruction booklet). A page will pop up with a handy visual guide for every brick in the set so that you can just select the brick(s) you are missing. After that all you need to do is enter your details so they can send you the parts. This service is completely free.
My order was sent less than 24 hours after I made my claim, so their dispatch department are very efficient. You do have to wait a couple of weeks (up to 12 business days) for the bricks to arrive though, as they come all the way from a warehouse in Denmark.
How did it happen?
If you've paid a lot of money for the set it can be frustrating when you don't have the bits you need to complete it. Lego have a lot of machinery and staff dedicated to ensuring that this doesn't happen and weigh every single box before it leaves their factory to ensure all the pieces are in there. But with millions of Lego sets manufactured each year errors are bound to happen occasionally.
What if I lost the brick?
If the set arrived with all its parts but you've lost a piece then Lego do have most bits available in the Pick a Brick section of their online store. But for parts that are unique to a particular set you can email their customer services for a replacement (they are more likely to be able to help if the set is a recent one that is still in production). You will have to pay for the missing part (which should only cost pennies) and postage though.
